Maple Leafs sign James Reimer to 3 year contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed upcoming restricted free agent James Reimer to a new three year contract for a reported $5.4 million which amounts to a friendly cap hit of $1.8 million a season. Reimer took full advantage of injuries sustained to goaltenders ahead of him on the depth chart last season to wrestle away the number one spot and earn a hefty raise from $600,000.

Reimer posted a 20-10-5 record with a 2.60 goals against average and a .921 save percentage, helping the Buds to make an interesting run late in the season. Reimer's fine form also earned him a call up to play for Team Canada at the World Hockey Championships in Slovakia where he was unbeaten in the four games he played.

Brian Burke was quoted earlier today saying that he was pleased to come to terms with Reimer and that the Manitoba native had earned the opportunity to play at the NHL level, he is confident that Reimer will contribute to the clubs success next season.
