Maple Leafs sign Brett Lebda to two year deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed unrestricted free agent defensemen Brett Lebda to a two year contract worth 1.45 million a season. The 28 year old blueliner has played his whole career with the Detroit Red Wings and last season dressed for 63 games picking up 8 points. Lebda is a stay at home defensemen and the club will be looking for him to fill in the #5 or #6 spot on the team. This move adds more depth to the Leafs backend as Brian Burke continues to listen to offers for veteran Tomas Kaberle.

  1. Brett Lebda is definitely NOT a stay at home defenceman. In fact, he is the complete opposite. Where did you get that information?

  2. When I first read about his signing, I began freaking out and kept on checking TSN to make sure Kaberle didn't get traded. Good signing but I just can't imagine the Leafs without Kabby so I hope this means that this signing doesn't mean Kaberle is going to be traded.

  3. He is not an offensive defensemen, he is mobile with the puck and can make the occasional good breakout pass, he does not push the puck up and positions himself on the backend, a stay at home defensemen he is and he would best be paired with Gunnarsson of all Leafs blue liners
